The new restaurant, Ketchup, on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood, looks like a classy diner, but serves upscale comfort food about as far away from a 50’s diner as you can get. Take the lowly hot dog. At Ketchup, the standard hot dog is made of Kobe beef; the macaroni and cheese ($8) is lightly sprinkled with white truffles and generous chunks of Dungeness grab, and Shake-n-Bake chicken consists of pistachio-crusted chicken breast, raspberry-Dijon sauce, garlic mash, and sautéed baby vegetables . ($15.00)

If you were one of those kids who liked POP Rocks, then you might love the new yellow buttons or “Szechuan buttons” as they’re known here in the US. Cooks are experimenting with using these so-called “electric buttons” in food and cocktails Dusko, the chef the chain of restaurants, Haru , uses them in two cocktails --— one is a martini-like drink with a broken-up button rimmed around the edge of the glass. Drink that and you could power an electric grid for an hour.

Today I had French toast with turkey bacon for breakfast, Chicken and Mushroom Wrap with Side Caesar Salad for lunch, a fruit snack and filet mignon salad for dinner. Delicious.
While this sound likes one of those tacky diet ads you hear on television, this is actually one of the meals in a new fresh diet delivery program called Freshology that delivers food directly to your door every day. There’s even a menu called Fresh Mommy Nutrition which is all-natural nutritionally balanced meals for the new Mom.

Eat It: Four Reasons You Weigh More Than You Want To
Posted on Mar 12, 2009 @ 06:45PM - Add a comment

It’s frustrating, isn’t it? You’re constantly fighting those extra pounds. You skip the pastries and jog till you’re about to keel over … but let’s be straight here: You still weight more than you want to..
So the bad news is that you can pinch more skin than you want to, but the good news is it’s doesn’t have to stay that way. Let’s take a look at some of the things you’re doing (without meaning to) that’s keeping your pounds on – and how to fix them.
• Loading up on liquids. Juices and smoothies – so good, right? Well, yes and no. The fruit is good but the sugar content is not. They’re too easy to slurp down, and here’s the real killer – your brain doesn’t even consider those calories food. So you’ve just packed on a meal’s worth of calories – and you’re still looking for the meal. Skip the smoothies and other juice drinks altogether. Try limiting yourself to eight ounces of 100 percent juice a day. If you can’t manage that, at least try to alternate your juice cravings with water. It’s a quick way to cut out calories.
Eat It: How to Avoid Weekend Weight Gain

Picture this: It’s Monday morning. You hop on the scale after your shower – and whammo! You’re up three pounds! You can’t get your jeans to button! Now, we know what you’re thinking … how could this have happened?
Think about your weekend.
A few beers after work on Friday? Pizza and a movie with your girlfriends on Saturday? And that was BEFORE you guys popped open the bottle of wine.
Those little indulgences can wreak havoc on your body – but there’s help. Here’s how to avoid the weekend pitfalls that lead to the dreaded Heavy Mondays.
If you must party (and of course you must!) make sure to add at least one longer workout toward the end of the week. The more calories you burn during the week, the more wiggle room you’ll have on the weekend. And mix it up a bit. If you usually jog, try swimming. If you’re an elliptical devotee, hit a boxing class. Changing up the muscles you work will burn more fat. And please, don’t skip breakfast on Saturday and Sunday – even if you’re a late sleeper. Eating something healthy in the morning (No Lucky Charms!) will rev up your metabolism for the rest of the day.
OK, now that you’re off to a good start … here’s a few more tips that’ll help keep that belly from bulging.
Eat It: Is Your Diet Making You Hungry?
Posted on Mar 12, 2009 @ 06:34PM - Add a comment

Don’t eat fat! Don’t eat carbs! Don’t eat breakfast! Sound familiar?
When it comes to losing weight, everyone seems to have an opinion on what you SHOULDN’T do – and shouldn’t eat.
Sure, if you don’t eat, you’ll lose weight, but you’ll also be starving. And that’s a surefire way to sabotage your diet – because people with grumbling stomachs almost always make the wrong food choices. Either you’ll grab something convenient (and not healthy) when the hunger pangs start -- or you’ll overindulge to compensate.
So what can you do?
First of all, ignore anyone who says you have to starve your way to a Size 2. Instead, choose foods that leave you feeling full, but still help you achieve your weight-loss goals.
