Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, seething over a sexual joke David Letterman cracked Monday about her daughter, said she wants to see the late night host apologize for his off-color humor, and contributing to a socially degrading view toward statutory rape.
"It's not cool; it's not funny," Palin told the Today Show's Matt Lauer Friday of Letterman's punchline, which implicated that her daughter had been impregnated by Yankees tabloid magnet Alex Rodriguez during Palin's recent trip to the Big Apple.

Denzel Washington says his friend and co-star John Travolta is still trying to come to terms with the sudden death of his 16-year-old son Jett, who died in the Bahamas last January of a seizure.
Washington --appearing Thursday night on Late Night with David Letterman --said: "It's tough.. We talk.. I listen... He's struggling."
Washington was on Letterman to promote his new movie, a remake of the 1974 subway hijack thriller The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Travolta co-stars as a ruthless kidnapper.

David Letterman answered back to attacks from former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin last evening on his late night chat show.
"Were the jokes in question in questionable taste? Of course they were," Letterman admitted of cracks he made that Palin's daughter engaged in sexual relations with Yankee Alex Rodriguez.
"Do I regret having told them? Well, I think probably I do."

Her smile may melt hearts but Julia Roberts used it as her secret weapon as she grilled the talk show host, coercing him with her million-dollar smile to dish on marital life.

"Did she take your name?" Roberts, who was on the show to promote her new spokesperson role of Paul Newman's foundation Hole in the Wall.
"Yes," Letterman replied.
"So she's Mrs. Letterman?" Roberts pushed.

We’ve got an eerily timely episode of Mental tonight with David Carradine’s last guest starring role before his odd death in Thailand last week. On the show, Carradine plays a famous author/professor who is struck by lightning while out with his wife, she is killed instantly and he is left catatonic. Jack goes all ‘mental’ on him and tries to bring him back using a risky and unorthodox method. Meanwhile, to make things more complicated, the attraction between Jack and the patient’s daughter, played by hottie Estella Warren

Howard Stern doesn't just mention the 800-pound elephant in the room, he throws a saddle on it.
The 55-year-old said he felt pressure to have a memorable appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman "in light of what's going on" in late night television.
"This Conan O'Brien took over the Leno show, you heard about this," Stern said, to which Letterman replied, "Yes I did -- I got a wire."
Letterman tried to change the subject, but to no avail.
Letterman Close To Signing New 3-Year Deal

David Letterman is near a deal to continue reading Top 10 lists on CBS for another three years. The network is about to re-sign the Emmy-winning talk-show host to continue hosting Late Show until 2011-12, sources said. The agreement will represent a two-year extension on his current contract, which expires in 2010.
The decision to lock Letterman in for a longer period comes as rival NBC makes dramatic changes to its late-night lineup, moving Jay Leno to 10 p.m. in the fall and the naming of Conan O'Brien as the new host of the legendary Tonight Show. During his first week on Tonight, O'Brien beat Letterman in the ratings, though the gap between the shows shrunk as the week progressed.

Paula Abdul left her status on the judge's panel of American Idol up in the air on on Thursday's Late Show with David Letterman.
She told the show's 62-year-old host that while she loves being on the panel, she 's unsure whether she will for the show's upcoming ninth season. "I never said [I wasn’t returning]," she said. "I just said that I’m not sure -- it’s called, um, 'negotiating.'"

Leave it to Robin Williams to turn something as serious as his own open-heart surgery into a laugh.
The 57-year-old funnyman had surgery two months ago at the Cleveland Clinic to replace an replaced an aortic valve. He joked with David Letterman Wednesday that the pair "are now brotherhood of the zipper chests,' as Letterman had his own major heart surgery done nine years ago.
"I have one new valve and a repaired valve," Williams said. "I have a cow valve, which is great, and the grazing's been fun."
